Industrial Millwright / Mechanical Maintenance Technician
Position Summary
The Industrial Millwright / Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial machinery and equipment. This role focuses heavily on mechanical systems including bearings, gearboxes, drive systems, conveyors, and rotating equipment to ensure optimal operation, reliability, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
•Install, align, maintain, and repair industrial machinery and mechanical equipment
•Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues involving bearings, gearboxes, shafts, seals, and couplings
•Remove, inspect, replace, and properly install bearings (ball, roller, sleeve, etc.)
•Disassemble, rebuild, and reassemble gearboxes and speed reducers
•Perform precision alignment (laser or dial indicator) of motors, pumps, and rotating assemblies
•Inspect equipment for wear, misalignment, lubrication issues, and mechanical defects
•Conduct preventative and predictive maintenance on production equipment
•Work with conveyors, pumps, fans, compressors, and other rotating equipment
•Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and maintenance manuals
•Use precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and torque wrenches
•Perform rigging, lifting, and positioning of heavy equipment using hoists and cranes
•Lubricate machinery and ensure proper lubrication practices are followed
•Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports
•Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO)
Required Skills & Qualifications
•Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including bearings, gear drives, and power transmission components
•Experience with mechanical troubleshooting and root cause analysis
•Ability to install and align motors, pumps, and rotating equipment
•Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments
•Understanding of lubrication principles and practices
•Ability to read technical drawings and schematics
•Knowledge of industrial safety standards and practices
Preferred Qualifications
•Experience in manufacturing, processing plants, or heavy industrial environments
•Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
•Welding and fabrication experience (optional but beneficial)
•Experience with predictive maintenance tools (vibration analysis, thermography, etc.)
Physical Requirements
•Ability to lift heavy equipment (often 50+ lbs)
•Work in industrial environments including confined spaces, heights, and varying temperatures
•Stand, kneel, climb, and work for extended periods
Work Environment
•Industrial setting such as manufacturing plants, mills, refineries, or processing facilities
•Exposure to noise, moving machinery, grease, oils, and other industrial conditions
